Crochet Animal Ornaments
For Your Christmas Tree
These
animal ornament instructions came from a brochure my mom had in her
sewing basket. There wasn't any pictures for the animals unfortunately.
Basic Instructions for Animal Ornaments
A.
Each ornament requires no more than 1/4 ounce of yarn, plus several yards of contrasting
colors for trim.
B. Loop hangers are made with a chain stitch of 20
to 30 chains.
C. Features - Embroider eyes and mouths with French Knots.
On profile shapes, work mouth in satin stitch.
D. Bows - Wind yarn around
2 fingers 10 times. Tie in the center and attach.
E. Sewing - Join all
parts by doing an overcast stitch through 1 strand of each piece, working from
the right side.
F. Blocking - Spray back of ornament with spray starch
and press lightly, using a pressing cloth.
G. Circles are used in almost
every ornament. Following are the general instructions for making circles.
(which are not repeated in each set of instructions).
CIRCLES
Chain 2.
Round 1: Make 6 single crochets
(sc) in 2nd chain from hook. Mark beginning of each round.
Round 2:
2 SC in each SC around.
Round 3: *2 SC in next SC (increase) SC in next
sc.*
Repeat from * to * around.
Round 4: Increase in every 3rd SC
around.
Round 5: Increase in every 4th SC around.
Round 6:
Increase in every 5th SC around.
To end any size circle, slip stitch in next
sc. Break off and fasten.
Crocheted Winnie the Pooh Ornament
Gold, green, red, and yellow
yarn. Red felt. With gold, work 5 rounds of circle pattern for the body. Work 4 rounds of circle for head in gold. Ears (make 2) 1 round of circle in gold for each. Paws ( make 4) 2 rounds of circle pattern in gold for each.
Finishing: Sew ears to head; head and legs to body. Embroider eyes in green, mouth in red. For "coat", cut red felt to fit outline of upper body. Work the name POOH" in outline or satin stitch on felt. Glue or stitch coat to upper body.
Crocheted Butterfly Ornament
Orange,
yellow, and black yarn.Center: With black, ch 38. Join with slip stitch in 25th chain to form loop hanger. Work 1 SC in each of the remaining 12 chains. Fasten off.
Wings: With orange, ch 8.
Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC 6, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: SC in each stitch across, increasing in first and last stitch.
Row 3: SC in each stitch. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until there are 11 sc's. Fasten off. Make 2. With yellow, make two 1-round circles. Sew circles in center of each wing and sew wings to each side of center.
Crocheted Chicken Ornament
Yellow
and black yarn. Black pipe cleaner for feet. With yellow, work 5 rounds of circle
pattern for body, 4 rounds for head.Tail: With yellow, ch 6.
Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC across row, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: SC in each SC, ch 1, turn.
Rows 3 and 4: single crochet across, increasing 1 in first and last stitch of each row. Fasten off.
Beak: With yellow work 2 SC's on side of head, ch 1, turn, work 1 sc. Fasten off.
Finishing: Sew head and tail to body. Embroider eye in black. Fold pipe cleaners in half and sew to body for feet.
Crocheted Bunny Ornament
Pink and white yarn. White pipe cleaners.
With pink, work 5 rounds of circle for body and 4 rounds of circle for head. With
white, work 2 rounds of circle for tail.Ears: With white, ch 10, SC in 2nd ch from hook and SC in each ch across. Attach pink yarn, ch 1 and turn. SC all around both edges of white strip, working 3 SC's in top sc. Fasten off.
Finishing: Sew head and tail to body, placing tail at lower right side of body. Embroider eyes and mouth in white. Make white bow. Use white pipe cleaners for whiskers and sew on from back.
Crocheted Cat Ornament
Gray, green and red yarn. White pipe cleaners.
With gray, work 5 rounds of circle for body., 4 rounds of circle for head.Ears: With gray, ch 4.
Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC 2, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: skip 1st SC, SC 2, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: skip first SC, SC 1. Fasten off. Make 2.
Tail: Ch 12. SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC 11. Fasten off.
Finishing: Sew ears to head, head and tail to body. Embroider eyes in green, mouth in red, make green bow. Attach white pipe cleaners for whiskers and sew from back.
Crocheted Mouse Ornament
Gray
and pink yarn. Black pipe cleaners. With gray, work 5 rounds of circle pattern
for body, 4 rounds for head. For the ear, work 1 round of circle in pink and 2nd
round of circle in gray. At one side of the head circle, for nose, work 3 SC's,
finishing with slip stitch in next sc. For foot, chain 3 with gray.Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook, SC ch 1, turn.
Row 2: 2 SC's Fasten off.
To finish, embroider eye, mouth and whiskers in pink. Attach head and foot to body. Make pink bow and sew to neck. Sew on black pipe cleaner for tail, bending it in a curly shape.
Crocheted Pig Ornament
Pink, black, and red yarn.
Body:
With pink work 6 rounds of circle pattern.
Ear: With pink, ch 5.
Row
1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Skip first sc,
sc across row.
Row 3: Repeat Row 2. Fasten off.
Snout: With
pink, ch 5.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3, ch 1, turn. Work one
row even, fasten off.
Legs: With pink, ch 4. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from
hook, sc 2, ch 1, turn. Work one row even, fasten off. (Make 2)
Finishing:
Sew ear and snout to head; head and legs to body. Make curly tail from black pipe
cleaner. Embroider eye with red, mouth with black.
